Visiting Brazil 5

"Salvador" - the Historic Center
~ a UNESCO World Heritage Site

Salvador was Brazil's 1st Capital city:  1549-1763.  The state is BAHIA.

In Europe, the following "i" symbol is universal for Tourist Information.  It was a surprise to see it once again.

Checking out Salvador - a gem of history!

I would have hated to have missed the weekend to Salvador, a 60-90-minute plane ride south of Recife.  If you like to "hike," you'll definitely be able to do it on these streets to see this oldest of "the original Portuguese" historic centers.

Looking at (https://www.mapquest.com/br/brazil-282934810),
enlarge "Salvador" & you'll see how it is on the west coast of the southern tip of an area of Brazil's interrupted coastline.  Therefore, Salvador is on the east side of the entrance to All Saints Bay & you're looking west into that body of water, not into the Atlantic Ocean.  When you begin to study the coastline of Brazil & S.A., you come to find out that it is VERY jagged because of the (probably 100s) of inlets, rivers, & other waterways.

Only a PLAN makes it happen!

A lot of people don't expand their daily routine because 1) they don't make a decision with a date; 2) they don't write out a plan; 3) fear of the unknown; 4) it's not always about money - to even know your own neighborhood however small or large.  Our farmhand's advice was that we can travel the world via a library (or now internet)!

The Uber was ordered.  Time to head out to the city & the Historic Old Town.

Then You Could Feel the Change ~

And around a corner, at the bottom of a hill,  we were at Salvador's historic heartbeat!

Watch your step! It seems as if the city code is to leave it as it was created a few hundred years ago :) !!!

An excellent hostel-hotel location.

It's good to arrive in daylight, especially when sundown is 5-5:30!  From the intersection, we're in a pedestrian-only zone till 2 plazas up-up-uphill.  But Ubers can take us around to a high point & it's all downhill from there!  SO, LET'S CHECK IN.

Let's see our Views from the
Window & on the Ground.

The Uber is on its way.  Our 1st stop:  the "ribbon" church!

One website I found w/some interesting info ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ 10 stories and curiosities about the Bonfim ribbons ~~~
My personal comment regards the sorrow of eternal life that will come to people who put their "faith" in such a thing as a ribbon, religious tradition, religious ritual, myth, "idol," and anything that, or anyone whom, they substitute for Jesus who died for them & wants us to surrender our life to Him & to make Him our "Personal Savior" as being the "way, truth, & life to the Father, & eternal life in Heaven."  John 14:6 & John 3:3-18 & more.  It's all in God's autobiography, the Bible.
(You'll have to highlight, copy, & paste the following in a new tab for some more regarding this church.)

An Uber took us back into the town center.  It's time for an outdoor, evening meal.

Opening up the world to different cultures, but remembering all of us were created by God.

Information

This is the 5th in a series of connected "Visiting Brazil" websites using Webnode's "free" website offer (with limited space which photos, vs. text, use up very rapidly). Having had a limited knowledge of life in Brazil (only knowing of the Amazon, jungles, & the Jesus statue), I made this website series to share our March/April 2023, month-long trip, for your enjoyment, enlightenment, and educational benefit to expand our South American cultural awareness.
