Getting Our Bearings
The first order of the day, along with breakfast, was to see where we were at in the bigger picture of the hills & valleys of Salvador's Historic Old Town! (This great map was on the wall by the hotel's reception desk.) Once that's in my head, I will always know where we're to be going, what's on the agenda, & schedule our time accordingly so as to not miss something because they "just closed!" Even though we're on our own (not a guided tour), the day is still planned like a "guided" tour. We always say, most of one's traveling success is ALWAYS in the planning. Every hour costs money, so we try to make the most of all of our time.
Our hostel-hotel is at the bottom corner of the Blue Church. Our 1st destination is quite a ride down to, and along, the harbor to the huge enclosed market. (Map #2)
Next will be the Music Museum (shorter whitish-pink building right across the street from the #17 Market building). (Map #3)
Then we'll cross that huge plaza/intersection to the base of the tan elevator which will take us many stories up to the top of the town (hill).
They gave me the tambourine, so I joyfully sat down & as a drummer, kept to the rhythm as an audience gathered!
Any "market" is up my alley . . . a good idea of the culture. Do I need anything? Well, that depends :).
Taking an hour to stop in at a different kind of a museum regarding some aspects & people of Bahia's music world.
