Elevator - Going Up

Looking at all these dwellings makes one wonder about the living conditions of the people who need to live in these high rises (the photo lower left with the laundry & T.V. dishes in the windows.)  Many times the outside can be and is actually very deceiving, and a coat of paint to the outside would do wonders to the impression and/or concern one has about living there.  Now I know I could find places exactly like this throughout the states (especially the further one goes south into warm weather, and even more in the drier, desert areas, & larger inner-cities), but on this trip there were just so many swaths of old, used-to-be vibrantly colored buildings throughout huge sections of cities where old and new are very mixed.

Quick to be missed is the main monument in this large plaza area where there seems to be a lot of bustling activity, & a handful of dedication memorials or city IDs - <---i.e., the wood block SALVADOR to the left.  Below, left, is Jose da Silva Lisboa (1756-1835), first Baron & Viscount of Cairua municipality in the state of Bahia.  He was a "Brazilian economist, historian, jurist, publicist and politician, active at the time of the Independence of Brazil" Sept. 7, 1822; treaty signed in late 1825 by the new Empire of Brazil & the Kingdom of Portugal." (wikipedia) [1st photo top L. has full view.]

Visiting Brazil (Brasil)

Opening up the world to different cultures, but remembering all of us were created by God.

Information

This is the 5th in a series of connected "Visiting Brazil" websites using Webnode's "free" website offer (with limited space which photos, vs. text, use up very rapidly). Having had a limited knowledge of life in Brazil (only knowing of the Amazon, jungles, & the Jesus statue), I made this website series to share our March/April 2023, month-long trip, for your enjoyment, enlightenment, and educational benefit to expand our South American cultural awareness.
